Housing study, critical infrastructure addressed by Sanford Housing Authority
Facing housing built more than half a century ago, rising construction costs and increasing environmental risk, the Sanford Housing Authority has unveiled a comprehensive reinvestment and repositioning strategy designed to protect residents, preserve affordability and strengthen neighborhoods for decades to come.
The strategy follows completion of a detailed Repositioning Study conducted by Dominion Due Diligence Group (D3G), which evaluated the condition, feasibility, and long-term sustainability of SHA's remaining public housing portfolio.
Nationally, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development estimates the public housing capital fund backlog at more than $169 billion, reflecting decades of deferred maintenance, aging building systems, and infrastructure never designed to meet today's demands.
