Benefits

Health Insurance
The housing authority sponsors a quality health plan for all full-time employees. The agency contributes 100% of the cost of the basic health plan, with an option to upgrade and/or pay for additional coverage for immediate family members. If elected, benefits begin 30 days after the date of hire. Our health plan also includes an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

Dental Insurance
The housing authority sponsors a dental plan for all full-time employees. The cost of employee coverage is paid for by the housing authority, and dependent coverage can be elected and paid for by the employee.

Vision Insurance
The agency provides vision insurance for all full-time staff. The cost of employee coverage is paid by the agency, with an option to purchase dependent coverage.

Life Insurance
SHA provides life insurance for each full-time staff person, in the amount of three times the employee’s annual salary, not to exceed $200,000, rounded to the next highest $1000. The premium is paid for by the agency. This benefit is effective 30 days from the date of hire.

Short Term Disability
Short term disability coverage is offered; however, the employee pays for this benefit.

Retirement Plan
SHA sponsors a retirement plan for all employees working 30 hours or more per week. Participation is mandatory after six months of employment. The housing authority contributes 3% of employees’ regular pay, and staff is required to contribute 3% of their regular pay into the plan as well.

Educational Assistance
Regular full-time employees completing one year of continuous employment are eligible to participate in our Educational Assistance program.  Employees who complete courses at an approved accredited college, university, or technical institution are eligible to participate. Training and courses related to the employee’s job duties and responsibilities with SHA will be approved on a basis subject to budgetary constraints up to a maximum of $2,000 in any fiscal year.  Reimbursement will be made in accordance to guidelines outlined in the SHA personnel policy.

Holidays
Sanford Housing Authority observes the following paid holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King’s birthday, Presidents’ Day, Easter Monday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, in accordance with the schedule set forth in the personnel policy.

Annual Leave
Full time employees will begin accruing annual leave after 30 days of employment, based on the schedule below.

Sick Leave
All full-time employees will earn sick leave at the rate of eight hours per month and may begin taking sick leave after one month of employment. A new employee who is employed by SHA in a full-time position with benefits, who was a former employee of another public housing authority, HUD, or a local or state governmental organization, and who joins SHA with no interruption in service between said former employer and SHA, may transfer his/her unpaid sick leave balance with the former employer up to 30 days.
